Our small and highly experienced firm currently consists of Gerry Doyle, Eleanor Doyle and David Gabel.  While Eleanor focuses on the technology industry and Gerry on the international trade and transportation industry, David Gabel, their valued associate, has developed expertise in each industry, complementing both Gerry and Eleanor in supporting the firm’s clients.

Eleanor Doyle has over twenty years of experience in providing legal support to the technology industry, negotiating agreements for technology development, licensing, systems integration, outsourcing , web-site development, SaaS services, and distribution.  Eleanor’s clients include Fortune 100 companies and smaller technology firms selling technology and technology services to Fortune 100 commercial customers and governmental entities. In addition, Eleanor has become a trusted advisor  providing general corporate and commercial support.

Before joining the firm, Eleanor was Regional Counsel to Digital Equipment Corporation where she supported all aspects of Digital’s business in the Northeast Region. Prior to that, Eleanor was litigation counsel to MAI/Basic Four where she litigated one of the first cases establishing the copyrightability of software. Prior to joining MAI, Eleanor was litigation counsel in the New York State Office of the Attorney General.

She was awarded the General Counsel’s Excellence Award by Digital Equipment Corporation for a fifteen month negotiation, bringing a major municipal systems integration project to closure. She was also profiled in the company’s magazine, under the headline, “Lawyer solves business problems”.

Eleanor was Chair of the Computer Law Committee of the New York State Bar Association for two terms.

Eleanor served two (2) three year terms on her local community’s Board of Education and was president of the Board during the 2007-2008 school year. Since retiring from the Board, she has expanded the firm’s business to include residential and commercial real estate transactions.

A graduate of Brooklyn Law School, Eleanor is admitted to practice in the federal and state courts of New York and New Jersey. Before attending law school, Eleanor received a Master’s degree in musicology from the University of Michigan and was a public school music teacher, choir director, dramatics producer, director and performer.

Gerard Doyle established the firm in 1994 after a successful career as in-house counsel for the pioneer container shipping company Sea-Land Service, where he held a series of positions which included structuring international joint ventures, serving as admiralty counsel, negotiating shipbuilding contracts with Asian, European and American shipyards, and acting as counsel to the European and Latin American divisions.  In addition, he served as the inaugural General Counsel for CSX/Sea-Land Logistics.

Before that, he had been trial counsel for the New York admiralty firm of Donovan, Maloof, Walsh & Kennedy, where he represented marine insurance companies, shippers and vessel charterers.

Gerard represents major containership operators, international trading and logistics companies as well as start-up businesses including technology companies developing systems for the transportation industry.  He has acted as outside General Counsel for North and South American operations for a major Japanese containership and ro-ro vessel operator, and its associated logistics organization.

His expertise includes the negotiation of business transactions, advice and counseling on operational issues and litigation in state and federal courts as well as international arbitrations.

He has written and lectured extensively on international trade, shipping and technology issues. His papers have been published in The Tulane Law Review, The Maritime Lawyer, Proceedings of the International Symposium on Marine Salvage and Lloyds of London Press Publications. He has lectured before the Computer Law Committee of the New York State Bar Association, the Transportation Lawyers Association Annual Conference, and the Transportation Law Institute. He was a panel member and his papers were published in the “Computer Law: Emerging Technologies” program sponsored by The Law Journal Press.

He is a graduate of Syracuse University and Fordham Law School and is admitted to practice in the federal and state courts of New York and New Jersey. He began his career in international trade at 14 as a messenger in his father’s freight forwarding business.

David joined the firm in the summer of 2002 as an associate after graduating from Seton Hall Law School with a focus on intellectual property, computer and Internet commerce legal studies. David brings to his legal career a broad background in financial accounting, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, with a major in accounting, from the E. Claiborne Robins School of Business, University of Richmond, Virginia in 1999.

While he is primarily engaged in supporting large scale technology services and global outsourcing transactions, he is also responsible for managing much of the firm’s copyright and trademark registration and enforcement work as well as litigation, trial and appellate work.

David is admitted to practice in the federal and state courts of New Jersey and New York, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.
